Domain Review covers

I’ve been writing quite a few cover stories for Domain Review in recent months but I’ve been slow to post them here, so here they are, in one go. For those of you who are surpised there are still any magazines left, Domain has an average print distribution of more than 130,000 in Melbourne’s east and south-eastern suburbs.

Sprinter-turned-800m-runner, Morgan Mitchell was uncertain what would happen with the Tokyo Olympics when we spoke a few months ago but now we all wish her well in her quest for medals. We talked about her new role as an F45 ambassador (among many other sponsorships), what her preparation looks like and her admiration for her mum. Read the full story here.

Tony Armstrong, the first indigenous person to call an AFL match on commercial radio, talked to me about his “accidental” rise as a media commentator and sports presenter. His story is particularly interesting in terms of how much pressure AFL footballers are placed under from a very young age. He talks about that, along with his Aboriginality and racism in sport in the story, which you can read here.

Talking to me from her new home in Sydney’s northern beaches, Boost Juice founder Janine Allis reflected on the challenges of running a global franchise empire during a pandemic, staying healthy and the meaning of life (no less). Spoiler alert, it’s about keeping a curious mind and learning. Read the full story here.

And, finally (at least for this post, more covers are on their way), I got to talk to comedian Adam Hills…for the second time. The pandemic struck just after our first interview in 2020 and so his Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows were cancelled (along with the whole festival). In this cover story, Hills talks about recording episodes of his UK satirical news show The Last Leg from his Yarraville garage under lockdown and the latest series of local favourite musical quiz show, Spicks And Specks. Read that story in full here.

And for those of you who prefer to read the stories as they were printed, here are the pdfs. Enjoy!
