I’m enjoying talking to a range of Australian (and international) makers for the next edition of the Big Design Market Gazette. So far I’ve learnt how to make three different types of ceramics, that in India women collect cow manure to fuel their kilns, that there’s a thriving Venetian glass blowing diaspora in Seattle and that the glass we chuck out in our weekly wheelie bins here in Melbourne doesn’t get melted down and recycled into bottles but rather, gets crushed and turned into something called “road aggregate”. Who knew?
The free BDM Gazette comes out in November but in the meantime you can see last year’s Gazette here.
The Big Design Market is on at the Royal Exhibition Building, December 6-8 and entry is free. thebigdesignmarket.com
